Vibration monitoring: catching a motor failure before it stops the line

The signal

Bearings get louder before they fail

A failing bearing changes the vibration signature of a motor weeks before it seizes. A small wireless sensor on the housing records that signature every few minutes.

The baseline

Two weeks of normal before any alert

Every motor is different, so the first two weeks build a baseline. Alerts fire on a change from that baseline, not on a generic threshold, which keeps false alarms low.

The alert

A text to maintenance, not a buzzer on the floor

When the signature drifts, the maintenance lead gets a message with the machine, the trend and a suggested action. The repair is scheduled on a planned stop instead of a breakdown.

The payoff

Two failures caught in six months

On a Mirabel conveyor system, two bearing failures were caught before downtime in the first six months. One avoided stoppage paid for the sensors on that line.

“A bearing tells you it is failing weeks ahead. You just need something listening.
